From the inventors of the Preformed Dead-End Grip comes this heavy-duty remake of a centuries-old technique for buttoning a wire’s end. The Wedge Grip uses tension and a mechanical wedge to grip 7-strand guy wire. The differences in the Wedge Grip and RIGGUY brand version are material and mechanics. The Wedge Grip is made of steel instead of aluminum, and, mechanically, the Wedge Grip user does not have to splay the wires apart to install but rather lays the unaltered wire in the wedge’s channel, then the wedge is pulled into a cone-shaped steel cylinder that is said to deliver 100% of the wire’s rated tensile strength. A screw-on cap initiates pressure to keep the wire from slipping between loads. It’s a very nice system. The Wedge Grip consists of four parts: the outer cylinder and cap, plus two halves of the wedge. The wedges come in four different sizes depending on cable diameter, while the outer cylinder and cap come in one size only. At this time, parts cannot be purchased separately.

Wedge Grip by Preformed Line Products for 1/4", 3/16", 3/8", & 5/16" EHS cable.

Big time saver, best most secure cable termination. Review by Ben

I believe these to be THE BEST cable termination hardware available. The price might seem high initially (4 stars on price only because they are pricey, not overpriced), but the installation takes so much less time and energy and provides a positive, proven hold that they are well worth the upfront cost. I use 3/8 cable, so drilling a 7/16 hole is much easier than drilling for a through bolt. We use a cordless drill to do it! In addition, if one leaves a little extra cable hang out the end, adjustments can be made later (use a new grip) and sometimes the cable installation can be pulled taut with a cable grip on the outside of the system. Highly recommend this system for EHS or soft cable. Buy at least 10 at a time. (Posted on 12/22/2017)
