Best handsaw I've ever used. I agree with about everything in both 5 star reviews above except that I've never tried ripping with it. (Posted on 11/17/2014)
Amazing saw Review by John T.O.

With good technique this saw will cut very fast and considering how aggressive it is, very smooth. I do property maintenance and occasionally have to make a few bigger cuts than I would like to do with my GOMBOY or even my BIGBOY and the GENIK fits the bill. No gas no oil, it's all ways behind the seat of my truck, just incase. One or two cuts through a 8 or 10 inch maple to get it off the driveway, road or lawn is not a big deal. If you are bucking logs this size get a chainsaw. (Posted on 10/22/2014)

I have had to relocate a few times and gave my chainsaw (non-box store, very nice brand) to my brother a few years back. I have recently moved to a Alabama where there are a whole lot of trees in my yard again. I had several trees that needed to come down but didn't want to buy another $400 chainsaw, so I bought the Genki. Can it replace a chainsaw - yes, can it take down and dissemble at tree as quickly as a chainsaw - no. I can use this with my little girls playing in the yard and I can hear when they get to close (unlike a chainsaw), plus they get to see that you don't need a gasoline powered tool to do real work. I have taken out a lot of bad trees, and they have ranged from 8" to 13". 8" walnut took 2min to take down, but that is because I took extra time to line up the drop since it was surrounded by Dogwoods which are protected here. 13" tree took about 45 seconds to drop since the drop area was clear. I think the sweet spot of this saw is about 10", 8" or less and I find myself just using my Gomtaro (another really great saw). I would say the max size of tree to drop would be 16", but that is a pretty good size tree so I wouldn't consider that a limitation. On green wood I had zero problem starting the cut - one slow pull and a then a few more hard and steady and down it comes. On "standing dead" it was a bit harder, but it only required the first few strokes to be slower. Man-handling the saw doesn't really make it cut faster, and the saw does require the user to know how to correctly use a pull-saw - this is not a "first saw". If someone wanted to use this for timber framing, I would say it would be fine, since the height of the blade keeps the cut straight. On a side note, after I cut down the walnut, my 3yr old felt the stump and said "what is on it", I felt it and knew what she was talking about - the stump had a glass smooth finish on it - sort of weird for a saw like this, but whatever. It also seems to have the ability to rip logs too since I did a little of that with it (and have it be mildly usable right off the bat), but it wouldn't be the quickest thing on earth to do. Good saw, and a good purchase if you know how to use a Japanese style saw. (Posted on 9/23/2012)
