Throw Weight Launching System

The advent of throwlines has changed the way arborists climb trees. The BIG SHOT® changed the way we use throwlines! Fit it into the female ferrule of a utility-grade fiberglass extension pole and you have a simple, accurate, effective means to hurl your throw weight to new heights.

The BIG SHOT accepts a wide range of projectiles and provides fully variable thrust force to limit over-shooting of low to mid-range targets. It’s simple … if you have a lower target, just don’t pull back as far!

The BIG SHOT also solves one of the most significant difficulties of hand tossing throw weights—vertical targets with narrow approaches. With minimal practice, you’ll be able to hit high targets through a small frame of branches and twigs.

The BIG SHOT is an accurate and lightweight launching system! The launch pouch cuts in-air projectile rotation by 50% over the original BIG SHOT pouch! (This advance is also available as a sling replacement for older models.) If you’re looking to thread the needle through the thickest of canopies or launch throw weights up to 150 vertical feet, reach for the tool arborists around the world call for by name.

In the Netherlands you need a gun permit to own one. It is an illegal weapon. However very popular.I use a green laser with it. I made a special page on my site dedicated to this great tool: BigShot with laser and trigger. Is in Dutch, but the many images will tell the story. (Posted on 11/29/2014)

I liked how the sling works but can't seem to keep my line from tangling up on the way out. It is definitely an accurate way to place your line. (Posted on 9/17/2014)

I should have bought this tool a year ago. I'm generally in pines 100 ft. and I can get my T.I.P. much higher from the get go...saves time from having to reposition my line 10-15x while working in the canopy... (Posted on 4/15/2014)

I like my one 8 foot, 1 piece big shot there is nothing like it. I wish I bought it 30 years ago instead of use my throwing arm or a fishing pole with masonry line for 30 years. Also like the fact the rubber can be replaced when necessary. I also bought the throwing line which works much better than the masonry string. I am still using my own lead ball but the Sherrll throwing weight is much safer especial when you hit a roof with it (Posted on 3/11/2014)

After only 2 practice shots I was pretty much able to place my line wherever I needed it to be. The big shot coupled with the zing it throw line combo. is a huge time saver. Will try heavier throw weight on lower limb placement 16 oz. versus 10 oz. Skeptical at first but not after using it. Awesome tool! (Posted on 2/28/2014)
Pretty cool but not a miracle Review by Steve

I just got my Big Shot yesterday and took it out to try it this afternoon. Three things: 1. There's definitely a learning curve. Where you put the throwline in relation to the pouch, how far to pull the sling down, how to aim, etc. Also, I noticed that since the throw bag is going higher on a typical shot, a good idea is to use a slightly heavier throw bag than usual to ensure good travel back to the ground.2. It's not the miracle cure all for every tree I was hoping it would be, but it's still pretty great. 3. I should probably buy a much longer throwline. (Posted on 1/25/2014)

The first time I used it I felt stupid for not buying it when first became available. If you use a throwline, you MUST have this. (Posted on 12/16/2013)

The Big Shot arrived and I was anxious to see it work on a 100' white pine. I was able to get the bag over the top on the first try. Very impressive and accurate! It certainly saves time trying to get a line in any tree because I generally take five attempts with the traditional toss method. (Posted on 12/21/2011)

A great choice for those tricky shots. The rubber grip on the bottom of the sling broke on mine after about 200 shots. I also replaced one of the 4ft poles with a 6ft pole, it just helps so you don't have to pull all the way to the ground for those high shots (Posted on 3/6/2011)

Quite simply the best thing to happen to non-invasive tree climbing in the history of of the biz. Won't leave home without it! (Posted on 11/24/2009)
