The self-tending and decending take a little getting used to but once you spend some time with it you'll never use anything else. When used with the ART Rope guide it is even better.

I'm 43 years old so I'm an old school climber and have used the taught line hitch forever, but this is bar none the best money I have ever spent on new gear, it has made me faster in the canopy. it took a few climbs to get my confidence level up with it. but now I'm a firm believer in the spider jack. Had a little trouble getting it to self tend and lock up on my 13mm new england rope. Make sure you use a lanyard when working because it isn't hard to bump the cam handle. Even with that being said, it is definitely one of the best acenders I've used. I would recommend this product. (Posted on 4/6/2016)
I cannot understand why any climber wouldn't want one Review by Majestic

From the first time I used it almost 2 years ago, I'm absolutely convinced this is the way to go for every climber. The only disadvantage I can come up with is if you dropped it from height, it could get damaged. I use it in conjunction with a ringed friction saver and it makes ascending so easy. You can pull your rope with one hand and the slack falls through the SJ eliminating the need to tend for the most part. This leaves your other hand free to hold on to the tree to assist. Be prepared to replace the clutch eventually as it does wear out and you get slippage but at $20 it's less than rope hitch cordage. I've ran 11mm Kermeleon, Tendril and Blaze rope mostly DRT with it and occasionally SRT. I strongly recommend using it with a good friction saver to get the best, easiest climbing experience. Ive been Climbing Trees among other things for over 28 years, never thought I would trust mechanical anything, This product changed my mind and a bit of my climbing style, it's like being excited to test it's and my limits again while making it easier, I will NEVER go back to rope hitch again! Ease of use and increased productivity pays for itself in the first use. I'm an old timer, but over the past three years - I wont even climb without it. I carry a back up clutch - and after over 200 days above ground I STILL am on the original! SIX STARS. (Posted on 8/23/2014)

Only 1 word to describe the spider jack. AWESOME. I have been using the lock Jack sport for a few years now. The Spyder jack is much better. This thing makes flying on rope a lot of fun. (Posted on 12/30/2012)
