The SherrillTree Portawrap is a lightweight and compact rope friction device designed for lowering heavy wood in a controlled manner. Designed by arborists Scott Prophett and Norm Hall in the early 90s and first introduced and manufactured exclusively by SherrillTree, the Portawrap has been proven a highly dependable and effective tool in sparing properties the damage inflicted by free-falling tree parts.

In the past, a ground worker’s main option for rope-controlling heavy wood was to wrap the line’s running end around a nearby tree, often candy-striping the “wrap tree” from bark-scorching surface friction. But now, in the time it once took to coil up a lowering line and walk it around the next candy cane-to-be, the modern arborist can have a Portawrap locked and loaded for multiple lowering tasks. Quickly wrapped and unwrapped between loads, the Portawrap turns a once precarious tango among fallen brush and tree parts into a smooth-flowing waltz in a small, easily maintained space. And unlike the ever-changing tree trunk surface, the Portawrap presents predictable and unchanging friction to ropes, allowing the groundsman to concentrate strictly on the dynamics of the activity above.

The SherrillTree Portawrap has significant corrosion resistance and tree protection. Our RUST-PROOF stainless-steel Portawrap will stand up to the worst heat, salt and humidity that a coastal company can throw at it. The main tube on the SherrillTree Portawrap is seamless, maximizing its strength-to-weight ratio. Seamless tubing is ideal for more stressful applications requiring higher quality, increased mechanical properties, uniformity and strength. SherrillTree has all edges on the main tube and solid posts chamfered to eliminate any sharp edges.

Also included is a Scott Prophett special feature—a tree-protecting cap that prevents the gouging and disfiguration of the tree that can occur with other similar devices that are available in today's market. SherrillTree Portawrap wins

SherrillTree Portawrap - 152,800-lb Amsteel - 0
Dear SherrillTree,It is our pleasure to report that during a normal day of log clearing exercise in the hills of WV for new transmission towers, your stainless steel Portawrap survived a brutal schedule while being attached to our John Deere 650 dozer, surviving the failure of at least one 52,800-lb tensile Amsteel rope. The Portawrap took a lickin' but keeps on tickin'.

extends the life of my rigging lines

although I haven't conducted a scientific study, there's no question we get at least 4 times the life out of rigging lines when utilizing a portawrap and block

An amazing tree device. A must have product for anyone serious about efficiency and safety. Eliminates the need for two people on the end of a rope and prevents rope burns from overloading what the groundsmen can handle. I would not do tree work without it. It will make a believer out of you on the first cut. By far the most amazing product of its kind.

Potra wrap

I brought my personal porta wrap in to work with me and introuced it to line work we used it for letting down strings of insulators from transmission line poles that weighed in excess of 500 lbs. When the rest of the lineman saw what we were using they wanted one for there truck. We will be ordering some more and training them how to use the wrap.

Could be better

If you lower limbs you should own a lowering device. The portawrap (or any lowering device) enables a single person to lower massive weight easily without damage to the rope. If the Portawrap had an upper anchor point, like the Stein version, I'd have given it 5 stars. Regardless, it's a cheap way to make rigging safer.

love it

loved this product and I sincerely regret spending a year wrapping rope around limbs and trunks when I could've just been using the fast and durable port-a-wrap. great product!

its still a portawrap

We know how well a portawrap works, I keep two because they are so great. Only complaint is the stupid bumper cap (that I was initially excited about) fell off about the 3rd use.

Amazing product

Fingertip control of 200 pound drops. Get a Portawrap and stop worrying about the wooden fence or the bird bath below the tree.

Porta wrap gives me so much control it isn't even funny. Not needed for every job but paid for itself on 1st use.

A "Must Have".

Used it for the first time last week, it performed flawlessly. I did the cutting and my girlfriend did the lowering. It was very simple and easy to use.

This portawrap is AWESOME! It handles large trees with ease!

Hill's Tree Service

I routinely lower 1500 lb tops and logs by myself with complete control ! No way I could do everything on the ground by myself without it. Being able to lock off the load and cut limbs so everything lays over the way you want is so helpful by yourself. The predictable friction allows me to not shake my boss so bad by knowing how things will run in advance. If used with blocks you will get years out of rigging lines instead of months !

Definitely worth the money

I bought the porta wrap after hearing from a friend how great it was. Definitely one of the best investments I have made!!!

Solid but smooth

I love this thing. Don't waste your time and your rope doing wraps around the tree. Can't beat this price.

I bought the large version for tree work, but think a small lightweight aluminum version would be great as a rappel device. Like the notion of multiple wraps to control descent and larger friction area to spread out heat. and the ears help control the loose end.
