Arborist Industry Credentials:
People always say that it looks so "easy" when they see Bernd climb...maybe it does but he believes it is all about one's own mental way of looking at things. If a person thinks "what a gift that I can climb this tree today," it sure will become more lightness as if a person thinks something like "what a drag, I have to climb another tree." Another thing people know ‘Beddes' for is that he always tries to play around to find easier and more efficient ways of climbing and using SherrillTree equipment.

SherrillTree Connection:
The first time I heard about SherrillTree was the afternoon before I camped beside the company's place. This is funny. It was in 1995 through a friend of mine, Uli Distel, who was producing the Geko Spikes for SherrillTree. Anyway, Uli accompanied me on my second trip to the ITCC in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. We were "invited" by this guy "Tobe Sherrill," he said to stay at his place a few days before the competition. Tobe picked us up and funny enough; I simply could not sleep in a room (being in the bush for a few months). So, it ended up that I was sleeping in a tent in a little forest right beside Tobe´s company. His employees had a good laugh. - The best thing about SherrillTree to me, it is that since 1995 I always had a very personal contact to Tobe (and his wife Anne) and it still exists...which is a great thing. He always keeps me updated on the newest equipment that is "out there." And sure enough there is a huge range of products to choose from...my favorite climbing rope right now is LAVA and my favorite harness is the "treeMotion." What a surprise.
Tree Care Connection:
My greatest "connection" is probably the memory to my childhood since I grew up in a little village surrounded by forest - running around and climbing amongst the trees. Another one is as I was travelling around Canada and Alaska camping out I had to climb a tree every evening and every morning to "hide" my food up in the trees (or on a slideline in between the trees) that bears won´t steal anything.... and sure enough to lower the risk of a "night time visitor". Trees are incredible, fascinating living beings...and I very much like movement and being outdoors...what a great combination to climb and work with trees. |
