Douglas Fir Climb

This climb was organized by Seattle arborist Zeb Haney in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service. After much effort on Zeb's part, permits were issued for two days of climbing in the Lake Quinault region of the Olympic peninsula of Washington. Climb leaders included Arboriculture Canada training instructor Norm St. Jean and Zeb Haney and, besides another great camping night, we had one of the best climbing days in modern history. On our way out to the Olympic National Forest Dan Kraus and I drove through what can only be described as a hail of nastyness being launched out the window of Norm St Jean's rented mobile camper. My car rental provider happily slapped me with an extra cleaning charge.

This tree-climbing adventure started with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Pacific Northwest Chapter meeting in Seattle Washington. Seated here are friends Mike "House" Tain of ArborMaster Training (splicing rope) and Rupert Evans, arborist for Butchart Gardens in British Columbia.
